Why Uncertainty Feels So Real Right Now (And What You Can Actually Control)

If you're feeling flat, directionless, or quietly anxious despite nothing being obviously wrong, you're experiencing a common response to collective uncertainty, and it has a name. Here's what's happening and how to find your footing again.
Lately, I’ve been noticing a quiet shift in the conversations I’m having.
Not loud. Not dramatic. But present in a way that’s hard to ignore.
There’s a sense that something feels… off.
And when people try to describe it, they often struggle to find the exact words.
It’s not that life is falling apart. It’s not that they’re unhappy. But there’s this underlying feeling of being unsettled. Of looking at their life and thinking, “Something doesn’t quite fit anymore.”
I’ve heard people say they feel flat, even when everything on paper looks fine.
I’ve heard people question goals they once felt certain about. Not because they don’t want them, but because they’re starting to wonder if those goals even matter in the world we’re living in right now.
There’s a shift from building for the future… to questioning what that future even looks like. For some, it’s the first time they’ve really felt it.
The weight of what’s happening globally. The uncertainty around finances, stability, and security. The conversations around cost of living, AI, and the future of work. The sense that things are changing faster than they can keep up with, and underneath all of that, there’s a deeper question forming.

Where do I fit into this? Am I even on the right path anymore?
I’ve heard people say they feel confused. Others feel frustrated. Some feel a quiet anxiety they can’t quite explain. And many are sitting in that uncomfortable space of not knowing what they want anymore, when before, even if it wasn’t perfectly clear, there was at least direction.
There’s also this internal conflict.
Wanting to stay informed. Wanting to care. Wanting to understand what’s happening in the world, but at the same time feeling overwhelmed by it. Feeling like every conversation, every scroll, every piece of content is heavy, negative, or uncertain, and that somewhere in the middle, people are losing their sense of grounding.
If you’ve been feeling like this lately, I want you to know… you’re not alone, and more importantly, nothing has gone wrong with you.
What you’re experiencing is a very human response to a very noisy world.
Over the next four weeks, I’m going to guide you through this, not all at once, because this isn’t something to rush, but step by step.
Each week, we’ll explore a different part of what’s happening beneath the surface. I’ll give you a tool to work with, something simple, something practical, something you can actually use. This isn’t about adding more information to your mind.
It’s about helping you create something you’re craving right now.
Certainty… within an uncertain time.
What does it mean to be 'in effect' vs 'in cause'?
One of the first things I listen for in these conversations is where someone is sitting, in cause or in effect.
When you’re in effect, your language starts to sound like the world is dictating your experience. The world is like this. The news is saying this. Everything feels uncertain. And slowly, without realising it, you begin responding to everything around you instead of choosing your place within it.
When you stay there long enough, your sense of control starts to slip. Not because you’ve lost it, but because you’ve placed it somewhere it was never meant to be.
In things you cannot control.
The world.
The economy.
The decisions of leaders.
When your certainty sits there, it will always feel unstable.
Cause is different.
Cause brings you back to a much simpler, more honest question.
What is actually within my control here?
Not everything.
Just your part.
Your thoughts.
Your focus.
Your actions.
I know that can feel almost too simple when everything feels so big, but this is where we begin. When everything feels out of control, your system is searching for something to hold onto, so we bring it back.
Not to the noise but to what is real.
Do you have a bed to sleep in tonight?
Is there food available to you?
Can you breathe without thinking about it?
Does your heart know how to beat?
Can you blink without being told to?
These aren’t small things; they are your anchors in a world that feels uncertain. These are certain things, and when you come back to that, something shifts.
Your body settles.
Your mind slows down.
You step out of the overwhelm… and back into yourself.
Being "in effect" means your sense of stability is tied to things outside your control: the news, the economy, other people's decisions. Being "in cause" means returning to what is genuinely yours: your thoughts, your focus, your actions.
How do I feel grounded when uncertainty takes over?
This week, I want you to notice something.
Where are you sitting?
In effect… reacting to everything around you?
Or in cause… coming back to what is yours to hold?
No judgement. Just awareness.
Awareness is where change begins, and I want to leave you with this.
You don’t need to have your whole future figured out right now. You don’t need to solve the world’s problems. You don’t need to carry the weight of everything you’re seeing, but you do need to come back to yourself.
To your breath.
To your body.
To what is certain, right here, right now.
From that place, clarity doesn’t need to be forced.
It returns.
Next week, I’m going to take you deeper into what’s happening emotionally and how to work with what you’re feeling instead of being consumed by it.
For now…
Come back to what is certain and start there.
Your friend,
Vikki
